Are the Ten Commandments still relevant today? Yes, more than ever! We are referring here to the rules for life brought to us more than three thousand years ago by Moses, the prophet of God – the Ten Commandments without ecclesiastical interpretation.

“You shall not kill!” God, the Eternal, spoke through Moses. He did not speak of wars or armament. Yet even today, only a few people apply this commandment of God to the way human beings treat nature and animals.

And what significance does the teaching of peace in the Sermon on the Mount have today? Christ of God brought this teaching to us as Jesus of Nazareth. One example is the Golden Rule, which is known in many world religions: “Whatever you would have others do to you, do it first to them!”

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” Every person should see in every fellow human being their neighbor, their brother and sister. Even in those who appear to be enemies, you should recognize your neighbors and strive to love them selflessly. The apparent enemy can even become a valuable mirror for self-knowledge when hostility causes you to become upset. Hostility can have many faces. For if something about your neighbor upsets you, the same or something similar is present within you. (p. 114)
